Hello there, while I was reading the HerefordTimes, came to my attention that Hereford’s St Michael’s Hospice are looking to raise £11 million in their appeal; This sum will fund the remarkable and amazing work performed by St Michael’s Hospice throughout the region.

Also, as said in the HerefordTimes article the fund will enable St Michael’s Hospice to make available even more beds and therapy rooms.

I’m sure that many in Hereford are familiar with St Michael’s Hospice and its work, which is providing holistic and palliative care for people suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well the so very important support and care for their families.

Just if you are wondering what “holistic” and “palliative” means there’s the definitions,if you already knew, please don’t be offended with the dictionary reference.

Holistic:

Of or relating to holism.

Emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts; Concerned with wholes rather than analysis or separation into parts

Palliative:

Tending or serving to palliate.

Relieving or soothing the symptoms of a disease or disorder without effecting a cure.

One that palliate, especially a palliative drug or medicine.

As such we would like to help by doing what we can, raising awareness and let as many people as we can about St Michaels appeal.

As for raising funds we also would like to help, we proposed ourselves to raise £1000 and the way we found was to set up a direct link with JustGiving.com associated with St Michael’s Hospice so our visitors can give to St Michael’s cause if they wish.

Just Giving was the way chosen as they give us a transparent and independent way to handle donations, in other words peace of mind to all of us.

Digg deep and give what you can but more important than that do what you can and something that we all can do is tell our friends that the hospice need us all.

Magic: The Gathering

Also known as MTG or simply Magic, is a trading card game first introduced in 1993, counting now with an estimated 12 Million players worldwide.

Each game represents a battle between powerful wizards known as “planeswalkers” who then will use resources depicted on Magic playing cards to defeat their opponents, those resources include creatures, spells and other items.

The game based in the original concept of fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, has evolved to be one of the highest number of cards and complex rules, the game counts now with organized tournament system, large communities of both amateurs and professional players as well with a secondary market where Magic playing cards are traded; Playing card values are set in proportion of their rarity and utility in-game play.

Magic The Gathering playing deck is very versatile being deigned to evolve as the player defines his strategies and collects new playing cards, giving the game two strong appealing factors that go hand to hand, the playing on it self and the collecting side.

Prices of single playing cards range from a few pence to in excess of £50.

Also refers a treasury management report that 4 Million alone spent on interest paid on those loans, article also refers that the interest rates on those short time loans where from 0.26% and 0.29% and also pays broker commission of 0.1%

Article also refers that some of the reasons for the borrowing has been to fund capital expenditure including the Rockfield purchase for “undisclosed amount” completed in last August.

Comments from readers of the Hereford Times have been extremely critic to the Herefordshire Council capacity to manage his funds, amounts been paid for consulting and spending on initiatives that in their opinion had little or no positive impact in our city and our lives.

Hereford council plans to install charging points for electric cars across Herefordshire over the next 12 months.

The measure is part of a plan to boost greener ways of travel in Herefordshire, supporting the commitment to lower Herefordshire carbon footprint.

First seen on Hereford Times, local news paper, it speaks vaguely of the council’s plan to introduce charging points within 12 months, which may be a very good plan but lacks greatly in details such:

How much it will cost to build?

How much it will cost to run?

How to fund it?

Will car owners use this service for free or paid?

Will it be as an extra service to current paid parking spaces or purpose built parking facilities?

How many electric cars are registered in Hereford?

Will it facilitate tourism in Herefordshire and if true, how much local business would benefit?

Generally many people would benefit directly and indirectly from this plan?

Why its better to “me” or any other Herefordshire resident to drive an all-electric car?

What would be the impact on carbon emissions if current registered electric vehicles would be the 1 choice of transportation of its owners due the charging points being readily available?

In what measure this plan would convince people to change over fossil fuels over to full electric cars?

Will this measure have any impact in generating business and jobs?

In the current economic climate why is this a priority?

I think that this are some of the essential questions that we need to see answered before we start to negative criticize the council and say no to this plan; Also I believe the reference included in the Hereford Times article about Fownhope Mitsubishi that would be struggling to sell their electric cars due the lack of charging points in Herefordshire, that would be harmful towards the Herefordshire Council as it may lead some people think that the council would care about a particular car sales company turnover and not the well-being and the brighter future of Herefordshire.

I ‘m very happy to announce the launching of Hereford’s newest website; That’s right “www.WhereIsHereford.com” is now up and running with plenty of features and great plans for the future.

Let me let you a bit about me.

My name is Antonio and basically I’m an IT guy, working in IT since 1999, since then I fixed many computers, installed some miles of Ethernet cables, I’ve given IT tuition to a few dozen of business, have design many websites, made a 5 year pause while I was working for a well-known local food processing factory where I learned a lot in many subjects, now working again for a local Internet Company as photographer / web-designer.

About 6 months ago I had the basic idea for this site, basically would be like a local social hub where anyone and everyone related in some way to Hereford could share their news, ideas, views, events; Promoting a healthy open-minded dialog; People could look for products and services and local business could offer them.

And six months it took to get form loose ideas to sketches on paper, finding the best technology to deliver dynamic content and keep up that content over time with minimal maintenance, programming, testing again and again, looking for the simplest lightweight solution to my reach, I think this is present in the minimalist site layout, favoring functionality and content readability over flashy colorful designs, not that I’m against to a highly graphic developed interface approach but for the sake of focus to the main idea and to the actually practical realization of this project by a one men team function had to prevail over design:

Have been a very exciting 6 months and for starters the site can now deliver local news, social integration, events, classifieds and directory, all under one roof and more planned to a not so distant future.

Thank you for the time you give to this post and Join us and be part of a great project.
